I think that more important than discovering who you are, is becoming that which you want to be. The former requires introspection, the latter motivation.
If you discover who you are and don't particularly like what you see, we have within all of us the ability to change who we are, to become better people. This process of becoming better is how we grow as human beings, and the best among us are those who never stop growing.
Whether it's learning something new, becoming more wise, overcoming a personal limitation, or just steering your life in a new direction, we can all remake ourselves for the better.

Discovering who you are is the path !
What you become is a direct result of understanding who you are.

Should be. If it ain't worth the result, you should've taken a harder and scarrier path, and put more heart into it.

"Self" is not something you discover. "Self" is the entity you create from life's experiences. You will discover, rediscover, and recreate yourself many times before you come to the "end of the trail".

Do we have a choice?
I don't know... I wouldn't like to go through the whole stuff again, but I wouldn't like to be somebody else as well.
