i have a 1993 chevy lumina 3.8L V6 runs fine I use it for work but not sure what the problem might be when i step on the gas pedal the gas meter goes up when i idle at a red light or whenever i stop it goes down and once again when i step on gas pedal goes up i stop it goes down up then down up then down I JUST WISH GAS PRICES WOULD STOP GOING UP AND START GOING DOWN!!!!!!any advice on what's the problem ?

its the electronic damper when you move the float moves up and down but it dose not show on the gauge but when its old it dosen't dampen and you can see it on the gauge,but any ways you can get it fixed when ever but its embarising telling the state trooper that you didn't break down,you ran out of gas!!!

Weird - mine does the same thing and it's effing annoying cuz I'm never 100% sure of how much I have in my tank. Maybe we're getting tainted gas. :(

Hubby says there's something wrong with my gas float. I have no idea what that means but he said it's not a big deal.

By "meter" I hope your referring to the gauge.

this could be caused by a bad ground, or a bad sending unit in the gas tank.
Time for a trip to your trusted mechanic.

when you accelerate the gas in your tank moves. the fuel guage works on a float. accelerate slower and you won't see as much fluctuation. when you are stopped is a more accurate reading.
