It depends on the length of rope and where it's tied to you. If the rope was shorter than the distance to the top floor, and it was tied around your head or abdomen, then I'm almost sure you would die.
If the rope was tied around your leg or arm, then you might just lose that limb.
The force of an elevator is easily enough to kill a person in the right situation.

well it all depends on how long the rope is, how many floors, it wold have to go, and how tight the elevator is closed that is to say if it closes.
because elevators now have sensors so if a rope was in the door it would not close therefor the elevator would not move so no u would not die

if the ropes are 200 feet long, and the building only has two floors, then besides being chastised for being an idiot, he or she can escape with minor bruises.
