It's not about helping anyone. Today's politicians are all about image. They will puff on and on about their wonderful image while at the same time sling mud to tarnish someone else's. That is how politics is handled in the United States. Everyone goes on and on about their opponent's "honor" and "decency" while never talking about the issues. What happened in the 2004 election with John Kerry and the Vietnam thing is a prime example. Kerry got annihilated because of his supposed "dishonor" in a war in the 60s--while never dealing with his issues or that of Bush. Classic ploy to steer the public's view to something not as important (in my opinion) and away from the real issues of the campaign. I don't think I have every watched a debate in the last 20 years that actually talked legitimately about the issues. Shoot, the people conducting the debates must submit their questions before the debate even happens for approval by both candidates. So, nothing controversial can be discussed. It's all about image. Look at the Kennedy/Nixon debate in 1960. Kennedy won favor with the public mostly because he looked the part--he carried himself well and showed more favorably on TV than Nixon--not because he had anything better to offer policy wise. Today, that is the staple of a "good" campaign. Politics are a joke in the US--nothing ever gets done. I swear, politicians are no better than a bunch of 6 year olds on the playground throwing temper tantrums because someone won't follow what they say without question.

It's not helping anybody.

But it's easier for them to yell and scream and sling mud than to actually stop and think and address the issues on their merits.

I truly wish more people would let go of arbitrary labels, let go of hatred for people who think differently, and commit towards working together to solve the problems we all face.

But sadly, that's a fight that we as a global species are losing more and more with each passing year.

Well if people actually talked about the issues there might be some movement on both sides things might get done and even if there was no agreement then there could be respect and so forth.

You see why this can't work and name calling is the only way now don't you?

Forgive them. They give into their emotions and fail to keep the lines of communication open.Be the change. Peace.
