Two-day-old marriages falling apart. A few hundred couples queuing up at the courts every day - dying to go splitsville. Is this a sign of traditional Indian society fraying at the edges, or, does it indicate progress?

Yes and no. Yes because females gender nowadays have more awareness off thier rights and are more alert of what they want compared to the generation before, as for males, some of them are suffering gender inferiority because of thier female counterparts which are more succesful than them nowadays.
No because at the end of the day, society will lose thier family values which should be cultivate by a mutual understanding of newlyweds and nurture thier love to maintain a traditional values of a society.
The sad truth is that, is not only faced by Indian society, but in general world at this very moment.

Good question!

No, when we talk about marriages falling apart, unless those couples are sacrificing something for the cause of nation, it is not a sign of progress.

In fact, it is the sign that people do not have patience now-a-days. They can't tolerate even the smallest intrusion in their lives, such as a husband can't ask his wife whom she was talking on the phone or wife asking her husband why is he late from the office?

It is called freedom in their words.

The small, yet beautiful gestures towards each other such as kisses on hands etc. are things of the past, which are instrumental in a true companionship.

Present days couples do LOVE each other, but ONLY when they are IN BED. For them it is a biological need of the body rather than a pure human nature to fall in love completely with your loved ones.

Nah! I would not call it progress. That can be achieved even without sacrificing your marriages. I am sure on that.

Can't be progress, progress doesn't fall apart. It's also not fair to state that it could be traditional indian society fraying at the edges. That is just society in general.

Absolutely not. On the contrary it is going behind to the ancient age when there was no social bonds. The reason mostly due to living in molecular families in stead of joint families.
