I'm thinking about getting a menstrual cup and I was wondering how long you are able to leave them in and how long you recomend? Should you switch between the cup and pads? Any opinions/expieriences welcome.

Also! Which brand /type (disposable, nondisposable) do you recommend?

I use divacup http://www.divacup.com/ too. The official answer to your questions is 12 hours (they say to change them 2-4 times a day depending on your flow), but I've left mine in for like 24 or more (once per day), and I've heard of some people forgetting and leaving it in even longer than that (2-3 days!). I use pantyliners for backup on the first or second day sometimes to feel safer (hasn't been necessary, actually), but otherwise I use my cup exclusively cos it's ever so awesome. I think all of the available menstrual cups are really good, it's just a matter of finding one that's good for you, and it's different for different people. I got a divacup cos it was the cheapest one I found after shopping around a bit, but some people prefer the Keeper or the Mooncup or the Lunette or even the disposable Insteads (which are actually completely different).

The menstrual cups community on livejournal http://menstrualcups.org/ and the MoonKeeperDivas group on Yahoo! Groups http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/MoonKeeperDivas/ are both really good resources.

I have used the instead product which I find I have to change about every five to six hours on the heaviest days. I have now been using the Diva Cup which I can empty about every eight to ten hours. I still wear a panty liner on my heavier days in case I have some leakage and then I empty it at that point.

There is no reason to switch between pads and the cup unless you want to. I sometimes wear a pad at night and use the cup during the day.

i appreciate mine! i take advantage of the Diva cup. i'm getting complications if I placed on a tampon for more effective than 2 hours or so. it truly is undemanding to insert (they comprise guidelines) inspite of the undeniable fact that it is going to take practice. there are options to fold it that they don't allow you to recognize that you'll analyze in case you don't love the prescribed way. to assist it pop open once you get it in, i suggestions operating it less than chilly water formerly you insert; it stiffens the rubber slightly so it opens more effective common. the in uncomplicated words time it is ever leaked is that if i grow to be in a hurry and did not make constructive it had popped open and sealed actual. you may go away them in for as a lot as twelve hours. merely make constructive you wash with cleansing soap and water formerly reinserting!
