I was 11 1/2 when I got my first period. When you start your period depends on the person. I've heard of girls starting as young as 9 years old.

Yea I was about 11 1/2. Was the summer before the 6th grade. I think the reason the average age is getting younger has to do with the average weight of girls these days. More girls (or children in general) are heavier and reach the 110- ish lbs mark younger. It's kinda sad really...

I was 11 years, 11 months old, but that was a long time ago. I believe the average age is getting younger. It's not unusual for 9 year olds to be starting their periods.
