You are correct, in what they call "Lies" could be anywhere from 'errors based on best information' to "truths that the liberals don't accept, or haven't been publicized", to "opinions".
I think the Republicans have made an important strategic mistake by letting these statements pass unchecked. For example, we know the WMD in Iraq went to Syria. We have statement from Air Force officials, even flight information concerning the dates and times those supplies left Iraq. And we found plenty of violations of UN weapons agreements. But the American public doesn't know that story very well.
They also failed to deflect debate - we went to war on WMD, and we didn't find the stockpiles we hoped. But the UN agreements were being breached daily, our planes patrolling no-fly zones were being locked on and fired on (both acts of war) and Iraq had fulfilled no major condition of their surrender/cease-fire. Those were key reasons for going to war, yet they are hardly mentioned.

You will be unable to understand this if you're too defensive but, it's the same reason Republicans accuse liberals/Democrats of lying. There is little correlation between the real world and the claims of the groups accused of lying. It becomes very difficult to present "iron-clad" proof of lying because the proof offered by either side is immediately slandered as a lie by the other. For example: Weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. There is no global warming. Both are Republican statements but despite continually mounting evidence to the contrary, the party still holds to them and accuses all contrary people of being against America. Too bad Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of hapiness didn't include a demand for honesty from politicians.

Of course there is evidence. On both sides. Politicians lie. They always have and they always will. It's foolish to use that as any way to make your point. If you don't like what a party is about then it's better to say that than that they are liars. That's like saying the sky is blue. If you don't know this already, then you have bigger problems.

Your question shows a conservative bias that would be difficult to overcome if I tried to answer your question. The best I can do is refer you to Bush's State of the Union speech when he was trying to make the case for war. He said that the Iraqis were actively pursuing bomb making material. It was later proven that that part of the speech was from fabricated evidence. While I don't personally call it a lie, I can see why some people would.

They do that because they don't have any evidence and have nothing else to use against the excelent job the Republicans are doing.
