I am 33 weeks preggie w/ #2 and was just wondering if the effacement and dilating process is different w/ a 2nd child. Can it start to happen 4 weeks before actual labor starts? When my daughter moves her head I feel it in my private area and can even feel it through my butt!! I also get sharp pains down there that I can feel through my perineum this all started a week ago when I took my 4 year old to a movie and got so uncomfortable I almost left. The pressure in my vaginal area was intense but then it would go away then I would get a sharp pain. It happens off and on everyday but no contractions really at all. It's gotten to the point that if I'm sitting when she moves I feel like I need to stand, and then when I stand I feel like her head is sitting right on top of my bladder. I see my doc the day after tommorow but I can't help but wonder if my body is starting to efface, can anyone give me any advice?? or tell me what I am feeling? My hips and tailbone are killing me also.

I was dilated 3cm for two weeks with both of mine. With my second one I actually felt him flip upside down when he was getting ready to come(that was like a week before I went to the doctor and found out I was starting to dilate). I had to be induced with both of mine. With my first one it took a few hours after they broke my water before I was ready to actually have her. With my second one the doctor came in and broke my water then left to go to his office and I had him back up there within 30 min. I couldn't believe how much faster it went, but it took me longer to push him out than it did my first. You just never can tell. Maybe you should call the doctors office tomorrow and talk to someone. They might want to move your visit up or something, just to be sure. Good luck and congratulations.

Call your Doctor! As a mother of 3, I can tell you that every one of my pregnancies and labour process was different. You can dilate and not be in labour. Pressure in your hips/tailbone is normal, but if it's became uncomfortable to sit??? You know your body best....call your doctor or go to the ER.

Every pregnancy is different. I had my oldest on his due date and in labor with him for 15 hours. My middle son was a preemie. I had an emergency c section with him when I was 29 weeks, and my baby was a repeat c section and I had him 10 days before his due date. My oldest weighed 8 lbs 7 oz, middle weighed 2 lbs 4 oz, and my baby weighed 10 lbs 8 oz...so I had an average baby, tiny baby, and a big baby...LOL Congrats and Goodluck!

Your feeling her move down, many preggies are different from child to child. I've had four kids and for different pregnancies...... You may very well be thinning and efacing down there, you may be glad to know that most labors go faster the second time then the first, and the third then the second, ect.......

Labor can be anything from practically identical to completely the opposite the second time around.

Second labor is easier that the first one because the uterus gets more relaxed and the vagina more open, unless u got a c-section at your first pregnancy

Yes, Its becoz the first child will be the hard one, and since that you get used to the pain, the second one will be much easier

Be gentle to yourself...maybe you have been on your feet alot lately, and you should relax. Drink plenty of fluid. But, call your OB just to be sure...
