I would recommend a 5 day on 2 day off routine. No more than 1:30 min sessions with cardio included in your workout. Checkout Bodybuilding.com they have a lot of good information on effective workout programs.

OH MY GOSH!!! You bet they are! I trained many students on this training regimine. The most effective way to gain size...The High Intensity" method. Myself, In one month, I gained 25lbs. of muscle. NO LIE! You have be dedicated 100%. It's the best, but hardest way I've ever trained. Everytime I start it up again, I always throw up the first two workouts. But the results are unreal. I'd recommend it. Good luck! You'll need it!

any thing you do enough of is good. but id say a good work out every day is better. good means you can do it every day. the muscle will fell better and last longer.and you wont need more then a good night sleep for recovery. and you will sleep better. your not a professional athlete so dont train like one. and keep going evry day for the rest of your life.

i don't think 3 days are enough...
i recommend 4 days of weight training
having a rest in the middle
