A 5 gallon fish tank will allow one gallon per inch of space inside the aquarium. Female guppies are pretty large and poops alot because she spends the entire day munching algea 'n slime off the leaves or even glass, If you bought yourself a male to go with her they'll have babies and boy do they get horny one female will give birth to as many as 10 guppies at a time. I would keep at the very most 5 guppies (the rest of the babies they will either get eaten up or you can get another 5 gallon or 10 gallon and put them there)

Yes i would recommend an air pump .. a simple small one will do the trick just fine and help with oxygenation as guppies create lots of waste 'n at least the air will help as extra circulation

Heater is a must for fresh water fish (except goldfish) does the eclipse use a marineland penguin brand filter? i've seen people running one of those w/o gravel which is pretty nice since the fish can sleep on the bottom better and all the beneficial bacteria is cultivated on the bio-wheel

Hope it helps :)

You will definitely need a heater for the guppies, set it to 80 and problems like ich are less likely to occur. Submersible is always the best option and spend the money and get a really good quality one, cheep ones fail easily. Aerators are nice, but if you are only getting a half dozen guppies, it isn't necessary since there will be ample water movement in the tank. Remember to simply rinse the filter out in lukewarm water when it clogs up for a few times before replacing it entirely. Also buy some salt for freshwater tanks and add it according to directions. I would suggest using bottled water instead of dechlorinated tap water as tap water also contains phosphates which will encourage algae growth.

You do need a heater for guppies but you don't need an air pump. Especially in a tank that size, there will be plenty of airation. Also, I wouldn't put more than 3 guppies in such a small tank.

I have an Eclipse tank, and the water wheel is all you need. The charcoal filter is helpful, too. The filter cleans the water of debris while the water wheel basically eliminates harmful bacteria from the tank. Use both.

Yes, guppies need an air PUMP. (you are pumping air into the water for them, not bumping anything)
They also need a heater.
Get a book about aquariums. They will give you lots of information you never knew you needed.

If you want guppies, you should get the 12 gallon eclipse. Honestly, a five gallon is too small, especially for live bearers that will reproduce rapidly.

i dont have air pumps on mine... filter gives them plenty... guppies multiple fast so i would make sure i was ready to have a bigger tank ...in no time you will have guppies everywhere....

when you feed your guppies leave your fingers in the water and slowly move around your fish while they eat.. eventually you will be able to as they say pet them....everytime i stick my hand in thier water i stroke each one... they come to me kinda like a dog would... its pretty nifty.... oh and if you ever get into oscars email me i can tell you some neat things to do with them to... they are lots of fun and love to jump out of the water to eat from your fingers.... bevnwal4u@sbcglobal.net
