I just got a pet grasshopper, and it wont sing. Any suggenstions?

grashoppers chirp too, but mainly during daytime
only males sing
put them somewhere where they get direct sun to make them sing - just be careful not to have them die of heat and thirst, they need lots of fresh air and sponge with water .

Crickets sing, not grasshoppers. Maybe you should let it loose in your yard, grasshoppers don't make very good pets.
