ummm....try the Pendragon Series. It's not as good as HP, but it is pretty neat.
wait...read A Million Little Pieces by James Fray. This is one of the best books I have read. I love it to death.

Please do not take this as any offense to the Harry Potter books, but I would recommend reading the Lord the Rings series to see how this general genre is done best. I have not read any of the Harry Potter books, and have only seen one of the films, however, I can pretty much say with a great deal of confidence that the Harry Potter series, however good some may think it is, doesnt hold much against Tolkien's masterpiece.

read the "his dark materials" triology by Philip Pullman. If you enjoyed Harry Potter you should enjoy these. The titles are:
The golden compass
The subtle knife
The amber spyglass
The movie based on the first book will be coming out soon.
