Just curious; I was thinking about Wayne's World and how they wouldn't let him play Stairway to Heaven. Is it Stairway to Heaven???

It turns out that anyone who has been playing guitar for a little while will actually manage to play all of the following completely by accident because they are so basic:

-Stairway to Heaven solo (the most basic minor pentatonic solo in history)
-Smells Like Teen Spirit riff (just move your hands and this one comes out)
-Smoke On The Water riff (same as Teen Spirit)
-Layla (wiggle those fingers on 10th and 13th frets, hey presto)

All of these songs are regulars on guitar shop "banned" lists so are pretty pointless to actually spend time learning.

For a pretty easy but great sounding solo which is not banned, I would go with Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing (good fun to play all the way through), or if you are feeling more adventureous, Steve Vai - Tender Surrender.

Stairway to Heaven is a classic and should deffinetely be learned by anyone who likes rock music and plays guitar.. but it is more for players on the advanced side than for beginners. The best solo to learn for a beginner would be Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. Its really easy and it sounds cool.

Jimmy Page's ( Led Zeppelin ) "Stairway To Heaven" guitar solo piece is a rock icon classic. Also worthy of mention is the three guitar solo piece done by Boston from the song "Hitch A Ride" , a song that impressively weaves electric AND acoustic guitars--THAT's a guitar solo each aspiring guitarist should master.

Then...there's Jimi Hendrix's "Star Spangeled Banner" to also study.

Purple Haze by Hendrix, Slow Ride by Foghat, House of Rising Sun (the original not the Animals version), Stairway to Heaven, and of course Freebird. Just learn yourself those classics and build from there.

The most popular solo that most guitarist I know in my opinion would be the solo to Smells Like Teen Spirit..

As for Wayne's World I've wondered the same

I would have to say the easiest intro to a song on guitar would have to be Nothing Else Matters by Metallica or Brain Stew by Green Day.

Other songs that a person must learn...Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple...Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana...Debaser by The Pixies...I've been working on Eruption by Van Halen for a long time and don't think I will ever get it.

for bass it would be Money by Pink Floyd

I know this will get some groans but play this on solo from the video below & you will impress your friends more than playing Stairway to Heaven.

Stairway to Heaven. ugh it gets annoying though, i think if your gonna hop on the guitar banwagon you should be somewhat original.

Could be the bass line from "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple.
