If it can be displayed in a museum then it has monetary value.
A finders fee is payable and is shared with the owner of the land.
As people have already said however, it is common so I don't think its worth any money.

In England and Wales, why not show to a museum. Call the Portable Antiques Scheme. You can contact the national co-ordinator at the British Museum on 020 7323 8611. The website address is www.finds.org.uk

If its in an area where nothing has been found before it could lead to something....I know. I found a complete bronze-age burial cairn. Now it's a SSSI and my name is in Discovery & Excavations.

good Find. Not worth much unless you have a rock shop and can add value to it.. I find nice pieces of petrified wood in Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado. I enjoy the finds myself. Had a paleobiologist id one piece, he said it was a common piece and from the early jurassic.

This depends solely upon the tree from which it came.

To determine its importance one has two follow any one or both of the following.

1) Get in contact with any institution that is engaged in the study/ research in fossil plants
i.e. Paleontology or paleobotany which is closer to or easier for you to approach.

2) Get in contact with Dr. Birbal Sahni institute of paleobotany- at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) ; India.

Till then do not throw it away . You may have a treasure in your hand if the specimen is from a extinct species.

Not really, petrified wood is fairly common. Its pretty to look at when polished and shined up, however

NOt by itself but if you convert it into a piece of driftwood art with minimal touches you should get something out of it

Not very much. But polish it up and it should make an interesting knickknack to keep around.

Not yet. Cut and polish it, turn it into something useful or beautiful, then it'll be worth a lot. At least to you.

Fairly unlikely. Fossilized wood is all over the place.
