I would like Non-Americans to answer this and please mention where you are from.

I have a secret for all of you. I am American and I asked this same question about the French. I just wanted to prove how we as Americans are labeled also.

Some Americans are rude just like some people from other countries. The person from Taiwaan you are wrong about other countries being friendlier. I visited other countries and yes they were friendly just like Americans are also. I am from Texas actually. I did notice at the airport in Paris I was just this young lady traveling alone and minding my own business and being quiet. Many French men would bump into me rudely. I wonder if this is how the French treat their French women.

I was scared and lonely being alone in a foreign country and nobody cared. However, I have met several people from other countries visiting my land in Texas. I invited them over and cooked for them, drove them around, showed them where things were and was available to them if they neede a friend. But why are we labeled as rude? That is so wrong. I guess I will not take care of foreigners anymore because all they will do is go back to their countries and talk about how us Americans are rude.

I respect your request to have answers from non-Americans but I would like to offer an explanation I encountered when I was overseas for a year and a half and I got the see the USA through the eyes of Europeans and Middle Easterners.

Many citizens of other countries feel that most Americans have a superiority complex. They feel that Americans feel that they are better than everybody else.

I have also heard them express feelings that Americans are ignorant of world events. If we lived in Europe, we would want to know what is happening in our neighboring countries as well as what is happening in the USA since the USA seems to impose her will on other countries. Most Europeans can tell you the names of the US President as well as the names of several other world leaders. Most Americans can name our president and a few other world leaders and that is it.

Other issues I heard include:
*Most Europeans are multi-lingual and they must learn English in school whereas many Americans (Most, in their eyes) only speak English and have no desire to learn other languages.
*I met some people from Central America who resented Americans because of the things our CIA was doing in their country. Some even believed that Americans had the power to stop the CIA from whatever it was doing because they could not comprehend that the average American has no way of knowing what our secret services were doing.

These are among the most common complaints I encountered while abroad. And while I can see their point of view and understand their frustrations, I am still proud to be an American.

I hope that you do get more answers from our friends from other countries but, in the event that they do not answer you now have some answers.

All the best to you!

From Ukraine. I think Americans are pretty nice individually. I'd rather not paint them all with one brush...take the 1 at a time. I've met more rude French, Dutch, British, and German people. Chinese tourist groups being the rudist people I've ever met.

Hi...I'm from Canada & I don't find the vast majority of Americans rude. You are overgeneralizing, by the actions of a few people.
Hopefully you aren't judging from what you read on this forum...there's a lot of nasty stuff on here.
Remember there are rude people everywhere...including where I live. Maybe you're just catching them on a bad day.

Some are rude, some are not. Some Europeans are rude, some are not. Some kids are rude, some are not. Some women are rude, some are not.

Let's not stereotype.

Sorry if I seem rude!
