I was given a St. Christopher charm but I was 4 at the time. Maybe something that is timeless, rather than something that will only be enjoyed for a short while.

Her first bible. Her parents can read it to her and she'll learn about Christ in a fun and colorfully illustrated way. They are sort of cheap and a fun way to learn about the Lord. When she get's a little older, she can read the words that she understands. I still ahve my frist bible ;) These can be found at that one Family Christian Store, you can also get Veggie Tales stuffed characters or books. My kids love those. The Veggie Tales Movies are great too. Another fun way to learn about the Lord!

Give her a necklace with a heart or a cross on it...and a card with the picture of the baby printed on --

i prefer giving something useful like feeding bottles, bath stuffs or infant clothes, since the mum is your bestfriend, you may know from her what else she needs that you think you can afford to give
