The 1997 Titanic Movie did so well because of the film market and the box office at that time. It was a well-marketed film with good actors and a huge budget. Younger audiences went to see the "hot celebrities" on the screen (namely Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet) while more mature audiences went for the exciting story and good performances. Along with spell-binding special effects (at least at that time in 1997), an unforgettable soundtrack, and a tear-jerking ending, the movie definitely made its mark on American cinema.

Titanic became one of the highest grossing movies of all time in the American box-office, mainly because the film just kept on playing and playing in theaters, with over $600 million to show for it. Along with the international box office and future DVD sales, the movie succinctly became a hit, a great love story of our time, and a staple in any movie-lover's DVD collection.

While it was an excellent film to watch, a love story and a thrilling and sometimes suspenseful adventure, the movie did have its weak points at times. On a scale from one to ten, I would give Titanic an 8.5. Titanic was a great movie, definitely worth remembering, but even though "my heart will go on," at some point in the three hour boat trip, my eyes will close and I'll end up changing the channel.

There were a lot of inaccuracies and what was with that annoying theme song by Celine Dion?! A real Titanic story would follow the stories of the poor people who all died. There should be no happy ending.

Because it gave girls something to dates to that didn't involve shootouts. I'd give it about a 5 rating.
