okay, i have a question here. i'm about to graduate, and i'm thinking about getting my CPA first. So in NY, i'll need 3 years of auditing experience... i was wondering if internal audit would satisfy that requirement.

and are there any semi-big firms besides the Big 4 that might have a bright future?

I would assume that the internal auditing would satisfy the work requirements.

Since you will have 3 years of internal audit experience when you sit for the CPA, you may consider also applying to be a Certified Internal Auditor. Nice thing about being a CIA is that the requirement is just a bachelors degree and you don't need 150 credit hours like you do for the CPA exam.

In terms of the accounting firms, that is more of the public accounting route if you choose that path. There are several medium sized accounting firms out there, none that I can think of at the moment.

Whatever you choose, good luck. I am in the same boat as you, graduating in May with my accounting degree. With a vast variety of certifications and applications for accounting majors, there should be something out there that you and/or I like.

Take care.
