The name has nothing to do with virgins living there. Christopher Columbus named the islands Santa Ursula y las Once Mil Vírgenes (shortened to Las Vírgenes), after Saint Ursula and her 11,000 virginal handmaidens.
However, virgins aside, it is a beautiful place to vacation. I went to St. Thomas USVI about a month ago, and it was gorgeous.
