THERE ALREADY OUT!
HD-DVD'S & BLU-RAY DISCS CAN BE RENTED AT BLOCKBUSTER.COM. AND PURCHASED WHERE DVD'S ARE SOLD.
YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT FOR HOME BURNERS THOUGH.
SO FAR ONLY SONY OFFERS A BURNER ON THEIR COMPUTERS...AND IT'S REPORTEDLY VERY SLOW.

ConcernedCitizen IS RIGHT ABOUT THAT!

I'd wait. This is just like VHS vs. Beta all over again and some people are going to be unhappy that they chose the losing format.

In case you're too young to remember Beta, it was Sony's original VCR format and it was considered to have better picture quality than VHS. A lot of people bought Beta VCRs, but VHS ended up becoming the more popular format, with far more movies available on VHS. Beta was eventually pulled off the market. leaving Beta VCR owners with no way to buy more movies and no way to buy new players to play their movies when the old ones broke down. The same thing will probably happen with HD DVD and Blu-ray.

The first Blu Ray is available for about $1000. Early reports on its pcture quality are not encouraging. HD-DVD at $500 performs much better (but still has some problems not related to picture quality). A later version of Blu Ray is due out before the end of the year, and initial reports are that it is much better, but it is priced at about $1500. I think it is premature to get either one right now; there are still bugs to be ironed out in both formats.
