Will HDD size affect temperature on it? I know RPM has a big impact to make HDD hot. But is there any difference between 80G and 40G? I want to upgrade my Laptop's HDD, but the old machine is not good at heat issue.

Storage size between 40GB and 80GB will not have any significant effect on temperature. Storage size is determined by areal density, which has no dynamic temperature effect.

Certainly with a larger HD, you'll have more programs. If you run lots of them at the same time, that may affect HD temperature. Just make sure to run only one at a time if possible.Even so, it depends on the program. Using Dreamweaver for me always caused a heat rise. Also, pick yourself up a cooler for your laptop. You know, it's a flat base that you put your computer on and the fans run on the base and keep the computer cool. For me, it works like a charm.

Do it and replace the cooling system and add an aux. fan if there's a spot for it.

Try this if you are concerned about the HDD temps.
