Compression boots have to be applied before getting out of bed in the morning. Once she stands up, the fluids will accumulated in her lower extremities and the boots won't work. She can get artificial knee replacement or have the doctor inject her with Synvisc which is a type of artificual jell found between the joints that lubricate the area. She would benefit from a low salt diet, uping her fluids (no sodas), and light exercise like walking to get the blood flowing. Get her to a doctor and let him explain all of this to her. He might put her on an antidiuretic also. If she looses her walking ability, her muscles will waste and she won't be able to walk at all. God Bless.

well our body makes something that lubes our joints . When you have no cartilage it tells it to keep making more thats why knees swell like that. then they need to get it drained, i went through that many times . now i stay off it as much as i can but just put it up and it goes down in a half hour. my right leg its swelled more than the other but its been 5 years since my last surgery but i;ve had 7 so far just waitng for it to wear out and go as long as i can before they replace it.So its bone on bone Now. they may be able to give her some pills for it

She's probably under a doctor's care. She has collapsed vein disease. She would do well to wear antiembolism stockings all the time. She can purchas them at any medical supply house. Have her consult with her physician for the pressure and denier of the fabric.

(The cartlidge loss in her knees is unrelated to her vascular problem. ) There is no medicine to make old veins young again, so she needs to avoid allowing her legs to swell so that she does not put herself at risk for DVT. (deep vein thrombosis -- blood clots in the legs------ not a good thing)

I dont know what is causing hers but I have knee problems because I need knee surgery and my legs swell up due to Dermamyositis. She may have arthiritis.

she probally needs to see a doctor sounds like she's retaining alot of fluid. not being a doctor. sometimes a
doctor will prescribe a diurectic to decrease the fluid buildup she needs to go to the doctor. take care!!!
