If someone is from Missouri are they a yankee or a rebel? I've been trying to figure it out because Missouri was basically forced to stay with the union and the governor was actually trying to use the state gaurd to leave the union. In the end they were with the union, but never really sent troops to fight in the civil war. What's your view and what state are you from?

I am from Misery -- er, .... -- Missouri. Your question does bring up an interesting schizophrenia. Missouri was a slave state but did not secede like the rest of the slave states. The state was schizophrenic because of the divided loyalties within it.

Of course we are all Americans. We were all American before, during and after the civil war. Being American has never changed. Its still fun to poke fun of our Northern or Southern Americans. Anyone above the Mason Dixon line will always referred to as Yanks. I think Missouri may have been a neutral state but in most maps fall above the line... If traveling through Missouri more north you come across people who are yanks. If you are from the south you can easily distinguish a Yankee when the open their mouth. Particularly Minnesota. Ohio. Michigan and so on up north east coast.

The terms Yankee and Rebel are both slang terminology. Someone from Missouri is the same as someone from anywhere else in the USA. THEY ARE AMERICANS!

I think that war ended some time ago and I don't think even at the time that geography necessarily dictated whetehr one was a Union or Confederate supporter.
