Ok so i have nothing to do now that me and my g/f broke up. I am lonely and have no friends where i live. So now alll i have been doing is burying my head in books to try and keep my mind off of her. People give me some good books that you have read that stick out and you could read over and over again. I don't want love novels or anything like that.

War and Peace by Tolstoy. This book is never ending. If you get through the first part it gets interesting and you will definately spend a lot of time reading it. When I read it, I actually look up some historic information about Napoleon. It sure helps to understand more about the book.

The Bible, (Best book I've ever read. It's gotten even better since I stopped reading King James, that I could barely understand, and started reading the New Living Translation (NLT). I always seem to find something new every time I open it. I've been reading it for years and I still haven't finished it. But I hear it has a happy ending:)

Other Books That Changed My Perspective on Life:

1. How to Stop the Pain
by James B. Richards (Must Read for Everyone)

2. The Game of Life and How to Play It
by Florence Scovel-Shinn

3. As a Man Thinketh
by James Allen

4. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
by Stephen R. Covey

5. The Four Agreements
by Don Miguel Ruiz

6. The Mastery of Love
by Miguel Ruiz

I have to second Ayn Rand - particularly Atlas Shrugged.
Currently I'm reading the handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood (I have yet to be disappointed with her over 30 works.) Joyce Carrol Oates - great prose and some of her work is quite therapeutic(We were the Mulvaneys is four star.) Agatha Christie - sometimes a little bloodshed can be just the thing you need to restore your faith in justice, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple restore your faith in humanity. But Ten Little Indians is quite a tour de force. A little Plato never hurt anyone either.

I would encourage you to just look into the classics of literature. They are considered classics for a reason. I have nothing against modern fiction writing, but I would argue that most of it is rather dull, rather superficial, and meaningless. I get the feeling that most popular modern writers have abandoned true literary form and are going only for cheap entertainment. A good book is not meant soley to entertain, you can turn on the television if you want that. A good book is a teacher who aims to enlighten you foremost, but yes with much entertainment along the way.

There's certainly a large variety of classics so there is always something intriguing for everyone.

As far as good books go, have you ever read any of the Bible, that is a pretty good read. Besides the Bible, I usually read things having to do with health, psychology, etc., so I'm not so sure you'd be interested in that, if so, email me I can give titles.
