We have waaaaay too much clothing at our house. We are always giving clothing items away and we still seem to have too much. Where can I find a good guideline about how many of each item it is good to have? I would like to read up on this before it is time to buy fall clothing. Thanks in advance!

A better question might be....how many outfits does each person need?

Yes, we use freecycle in our area, and as I mentioned in my details, we give lots of clothes away.

There are no magic numbers. It all depends on what the person's job might be, the climate you live in, and other leisure activities. If you want to cut down stop buying new clothes. If you have to buy something new, give away -- don't throw away -- two other items.

I once read about a man who decided he would only own 250 items. Anytime he had to buy something new he would have to get rid of something else.

Several years ago I stopped buying new school clothes for my kids. Why is it that what they wore to the mall the week before school started is now considered inappropriate to wear the school?

It depends on how often you do the laundry. I used to have closets fullllll of clothes, but I noticed that I only wore the same 8 - 10 outfits, and as the season would change I would go buy more clothes. So I got rid of all the excess, and guess what?? I don't miss any of the stuff I gave away! AND somebody is getting the use out of it. Try it.

Go to freecycle.org and give it away. Good luck.

I usually take two each in Oregon trail, three if I'm a banker.

It depends on how often you want to do laundry. (Once a week=7 each per person.)
