Addition: do most teachers nowadays have Masters? I was under the impression a large majority of teachers held a Bachelors degree as their highest degree. Thanks

Well during your undergrad you will major in some sort of education program. You take classes and yes your last semester in college you student teach. During this semester you write about your experience and you learn by being in the field. After a teacher graduates college with his or her degree then you just apply to where-ever you want to start your new life. Umm... No teachers do not make that much money. It depends on if you teach public or private and where you end up in America. Teachers who teach private schools don't make as much as teachers who teach public. And the public school teachers make more money if you are teaching in a nice suburb. So you do your student teaching while you are still in school, right when you graduate you start making money after you get hired on!!

In most undergrad education programs, there is an internship as a student teacher that is set up by the college with a local school district.

After you graduate and you have your BA in educaiton, you need to work towards your certification. Sometimes this means taking and passing the Praxis I and II (common teacher tests). The requirements vary by state. Some states require you to get hired by a school system and then that school system applies for your certification on your behalf.

Call your state certification office...they'll be able to give you the specifics.

When a teacher finishes undergraduate school (meaning that he or she has earned a four-year college degree), he is fully qualified as a teacher. He or she would not start as a student teacher, but would start as a regular teacher with the full salary of a first-year teacher.

Student teaching happens during one's senior year of college. It lasts for one semester generally.

I was under the impression that student teaching was done while in the education program. You should be able to start teaching with your BA, as long as you're still working on your MA. (Depends on the state. You may have to go ahead and go through grad school, or you may not even need it.)

Yup you have to be a student teacher before being any kind of teacher. That's all I really know about that, though.
