I think doctors have more credibility than something you read on the internet. Listen to the doctor.

There are alot of people who have had their tonsils removed. My mother had hers removed when she was 18 and now she is 60. I have also have heard by having your tonsils removed you have fewer sore throats, my mother agrees. I would always take a doctors advice, thats why they go to school many many years, and being a ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor), they specialize in problems like your daughters. I understand your concern about your daughter having an operation at a young age, but thats only because you are a mother that loves your daughter and don't want to put her through anything that you might think will hurt her. Having tonsils removed today is a very easy, most times outpatient surgery. If you are unsure why don't you get a second opinion from another doctor? And remember don't believe everything you hear or read about on the Internet. Everything will work out for the best...

What country are you in????? In the US. when children have tonsil infections, they are given antibiotics. If it goes on repeatedly, then we opt for surgery. We really don't like to take them out because they are part of the immune system, and have a purpose. However, tonsils can swell to such a degree, and harbor so many kinds of bacteria that the throat gets shut down --- this condition is called quincy. If a child is breathing thru the mouth during sleep, the gums are drying out, as are the teeth, leaving them open to infection and tooth decay (saliva protects the teeth and gums). So, you have a double problem here: do you take out the tonsils so the kid can breathe normally, or do you continue to feed the kid antibiotics, every time the kids gets tonsilitis. The problem in the long run, tho not a huge one, is that in elder years, it has been found that those people who had their tonsils removed had a slightly higher incident of one type of blood cancer. In your place, if my child were not breathing well, and things are as you have described, I'd seek a second opinion, and have them removed. Inflamed tonsils are painful, and having a sore throat all the time is no fun. Feeling as if your throat is being shut down is also not fun. I know -- I had mine out at 28. My tonsils were so scarred from infections for so many years that a simple operation in which there should have been very little blood loss was much more complicated, and took twice as long. Tonsil surgery in an adult is a major operation. In a child, they practically peal out.

I had enlarged tonsils until I was 15. They finally went down enough to have them taken out. If they are enlarged it can cause her to strangle easily and can also make breathing very difficult. The surgery is not very serious. I've assisted with that type of surgery. It takes less than 30 minutes and it will help her so much in the long run. Listen to your doctor and don't rely on the internet...you can read ANYTHING on the net.

taking tonsils out is the most common of all procedures now. they can come out at any age. if enlarged, they can cause breathing and eating problems or even choke on food. once you have problems with them, you always will. they really don't have any use. she would be fine and you can get a differant opinion from another ent specialist. the best site is md.com and pdr.com.

Any information on the internet isn't always acurate that's for sure! A doctor is a trained professional - he obviously knows what he's talking about. Regardless of your daughters age...down the road it can cause a lot more conflicts with her health. It actually can get worse as she gets older. I say listen to the trained professional & she'll be alright.

OMG Calm the hell down will ya?! It's a SIMPLE ROUTINE PROCEDURE, there is NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. Listen to the doctor sweetheart, trust me he knows a lot more than you. If he recommended they be removed, then listen to him and stop being overdramatic. He has the medical degree, you don't.

Im 50 i got mine still but back then they took most everyones out> its not a big deal no more to have it done. But if you do need them out the longer you wait the worse it gets age wise. and shoare throats are harder when you get older with them still in because they swell. it you dont have them they dont.Go to the family Dr. and see what he says too.
