Do not put any type of lubricant on the windshield wipers. Anything you put on them will immediately transfer to the windshield which will leave you with less than desirable results. You can clean them every month or so with some rubbing alcohol, just wet a cloth with the alcohol and squeeze the wiping portion of the blade with the cloth and run it up and down the blade a few times, this will remove built up dirt and make them wipe better.

No there isn't something that will make them last any longer with out compromising the effectiveness of cleaning. Wiper blades are supposed to be replace at least once a year and maybe 2 times a year. Do yourself a favor and buy the factory refills from the dealer or buy Rain-X wiper blades. I have purchased just about every blade there is from the cheapo store brand to the triple edge. For my money nothing has worked better or lasted longer than the Rain-X blades. They worked so well I started selling them in our parts department. Every once in a while I'll get a customer that has a blade that is jumping or streaking, and it usually turns out to be a bent wiper arm or worn out spring on the wiper arm.

A silicone based lubricant. The same stuff you can use on weatherstripping to make it last longer will also help your wiper inserts, but they're so cheap it's better just to save the silicone grease for the weatherstripping and buy new inserts

Thanks for the information about RainX. I got my cars' oil change about a month ago. They check for everything, including windsheild wipers. My car is a 2009,and I have to check the wipers more often because the heat of the summer down where I live , makes the wiper blades break faster.

I havent heard of any lubricant,--they are a throw away item as the elements especialy the sun makes them hard and you just replace.

sillicone spray can inprove effectiveness, but it really just a quick fix for the cheap b*stard who wont buy new ones. i recomend buyind quality blade and personally recomend motorcraft...they cost about $10 each, but you get atleast a years worth of service

Armor all . Use sparingly. You don't want it to smear all over the windshield when you turn them on.
