Is moving a consideration where you can get a similar position? Could you work security detail and/or set up a security company with your experience in the prison system?
You've got loads of real world experience. Did you ever get into management? I think the rule of thumb is for every 2-3 years of experience is equivalent to 1 year of college, so in theory, you've got a masters.
Job's aren't always the best way to go. If you can start a business that captilizes on your skills, maybe as a consultant, you can create your own schedule. In general, as long as you can save or make a company more than you are asking in return, you've got a winning proposition. Can you point enough money to the skills you can assit a company with to get you where you need to be?
Good luck.

We had a friend that was a deputy sheriff for years and after leaving that position he went into home security, where he worked with a company that placed alarm securitie in homes. It seemed to serve him well, but I could not tell you the pay. You may want to think about what the junior colleges are offereing in terms of vocational retraining. It may help to create a new skill set that would make you marketable to a particular field. Lots of people have been forced to do that at a later age, and your'e certainly still young enough.
