We are traveling to NSW in a few weeks and we would like to stay at, or on, a good surf beach near Sydney. I have heard good things about Manly but I am unsure about the accomodations. We are low-key visitors who prefer to stay away from the tourist traps and just enjoy the local lifestyle. Any suggestions or advice about places to stay in Manly would be greatly appreciated. [And, if you've any input on fave places to stay in Sydney, I'd love to read it]. Thanks for your Answers!

Sydney is fabulous, I will be putting some of my photos on Yahoo later this week when they have been transferred from APS to CD. Darling Harbour is full of bars and restuarants, and the aquarium is there too, a great place to go. For the most spectacular view of Sydney, go to the top of the AMP Tower, you get a 360 of the whole city, and I took photo's from insed there, and they all came out great, no sign they were behind glass! The harbour area its self is great, lots of bars and restuarants, and the other side of the harbour is a place called The Rocks, lots of classy shops, bars and eating places, lots of Japanese and chinese places where you chose what you want, they give you a ticket and then call you when its cooked, great and very cheap! Top explore a bit further, there are trips to the Blue Mountains, breathtaking scenery and of course, the Three Sisters rock, and the worlds steepest incline railway. There is so much to do, so much to see of the new modern Sydney, as well as the old parts, such as John Cadmans cottage, one of the first settlers in Oz, wandering round Sydney, you will see old mixed with the new, just too much to put in an answer on here

Manly is a very quiet place indeed! I also got to go on the Many ferry, top deck as my freinds father was one of the harbourmasters, now that is a way to see Sydney from the water.

best places for surfing are Bondi, of course, and 7 mile beach, a bit around the coast, its where Home & Away is filmed, but the best beaches are really up along the Gold Coast

Sydney is an outstanding city with its dazzling harbour and acceptable beaches, yet particularly, except for those valuable residences, that is purely yet another tremendous present day city. For a really unusual adventure, visit three area of the entire Barrier Reef which runs for over 1000 miles off the coast of Queensland. If funds isn't an problem, take a crusing vacation around the Whitsunday Islands.

LMAO, youre a low key visitor wanting to stay away from tourist traps and youre going to sydney????? well actually the western suburbs dont tend to attract to many tourist, although the natives can be a bit wild out there.........theres thousands of great coastal places in NSW, if you dont like busy tourism places I'd suggest staying north of Newcastle or south of Woolongong
