The very base of Friendship is TRUST. It is only trust in a person which makes you a friend of him/her. All other things are materialistic and does not last long. The best friends are THE BEST of all friends you have. A person on whom you trust and share your joys and sorrows are your BEST Freiends. You may have a lots of friends but only a few are the best friends. Those who know the meaning of a FRIEND, knows that TRUST is a thread which ties two persons to be a good friend.
It is also the moral duty of a friend to not to break the trust of any friend who has trusted him.

Well if you don't trust a person then why (or how) do you consider them your best friend?
You don't have to reveal everything to a best friend. There are something things that we just don't feel that comfortable telling anyone. There are some things that perhaps your particular best friend might not be the best equipped to handle because they lack knowledge or experience in that area. etc.
However a best friend is not just someone you enjoy hanging out with, a best friend should be someone who you do trust and can confide in. So while you don't *have* to trust your best friends, if you feel that you can't really trust them then perhaps you should start looking for some new best friends.

If I consider someone as my 'best friend', I guess there must be a certain trust level. It all depends on what subject where the trust is needed. It all depends on situations. At the end of the day, you should be able to judge for yourself - to trust or not to trust, for you will be responsible.

well, i'd say you have to know your bestfriends. you really should choose to be friends with those you can trust. but sometimes, you just happen to be friends with flakey people. my best friend, for instance, tends to be a bit flakey and self-centered. so sometimes, she'll all of a sudden cancel our plans to hang with a guy or something. but i know how she is, and i accept it, and act accordingly. i don't confide everything in her, but i trust her on most stuff. hope this helped...

Of course, at least to some degree. Can't really be a real best friend if you don't trust them.

No we don't have to trust them, but if we can't, then they aren't a best friend anyway. When there's no trust, then you haven't got much.

No, it's up to you who you trust. But let me ask you...is it worth having a friend you can't trust? Is it healthy?
