The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon-
About an autistic kid who is wrongly accused of killing a neighbor's dog and then tries to solve the mystery of who really did it.
Lullaby by Chuck Pallahniuk-
A guy discovers an African "culling song" which kills anyone it's sung to. He sets out to destroy all copies of the book in which the song is printed in order to save people who might inadvertently read the song.
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller-
Not remotely near the horror genre, but I thought this was the most fantastic book ever when I was 13, and I still think it's an amazing book. It describes the horrors of war (specifically, World War II) in the most hilarious writing I've ever read even while it vividly illustrated the pointlessness & evil of most of the fighting we humans do.
Enjoy your reading!

Most books by Dean Koontz are excellent! They are considered "Horror - Suspense". He is awesome because he writes books on events that are kinda outlandish, but when it gets down to it, ... you realize that it is possible that some of the "horrors" COULD actually happen. Different than Stephen King... a little more realistic which makes it even all the more horrific. "Shadow Fires" is terrific and another is "One Door Away From Heaven". Hope that helps!

Read some Stephen King, Dean Koontz, or begin the Dragonlance saga with Chronicles volume 1.

I read true crime books. Ann Rule is the best, although there are others. I figure, why read something fake when the real stuff is better. Although there is a time for romances. Also books that are historical, like Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. That is a must read

I am fifteen and I read Stephen King books. My mom got me into them at just 11. They pretty much fulfilled my need for horror and they are not that hard to read (at least for me).
P.S. If you do start reading them don't watch the movies before you read the book. Except maybe for Rose Red, they did a great book to movie on that one.

The Circue du Freak series is good.
I like Eragon and The Harry Potter series (not horror and heavy reading)

Stephen King and Dean Koontz are great if you're into the real creepy, psychological scary type of books, they are pretty deep and even freak me out a bit when I read them sometimes.

I love horror books too. My favorite author is Dean Koontz. I have read most of his books. They're all good, in my opinion.

I don't know if they're too tame or what, but when I was your age (wow, that made me feel old) I used to read Fear Street books by RL Stein.
