i would have to say both...
in both cases you are loosing someone that you have grown close too...and when you hear that someone wants to break up with you it hits your coffiedence level...but when you tell them ...you are doin the same to them...so no matter what position you are in...you know how it feels
good luck

Hearing that someone wants to breakup is harder. It goes with all the psych stuff about the action or being left behind. No one wants to be told that they did not measure up to anothe one. We do not like being told we are not good enough.
To take the initiative to leave, takes knowledge of yourself and what you want. It also requiers the ability to let go move on, to assess where youare in a relationship and what you want out of it.

Breaking up is harder for me because just because you break up with someone doesn't mean you don't still love or care about them, other things could have gone wrong in the relationship that led to the breakup.

Hearing, because you can plan what you're going to say when you tell someone you want to break up with them. Hearing, on the other hand, you can only hope that the person tries to comfort you as much as possible while telling the truth.

For me, it's hearing. I've been there and I've had my heart broken.
I've also told someone that I wanted to breakup with them. That was easy. Noone got hurt.

Hearing person you love tell you they don't want to be with you.
Being rejected by someone who you thought truly cared about you is one of the worst things ever.

neither. when hearing your love breaking up with you is definitely hard. your break down, and lose your thoughts and mind over that person every single day. it hurts, but when you breaking up with someone, it's either easy or hard. you have your reasons. sometimes, you just gotta let go. 'cause you know you're making the right decision for the both of you guys.

telling someone I want to breakup with them. I can handle rejection but I absolutely hate making an @$$ of myself which is usually what happens.

It definitely wud be hearing for most of the people, bcoz there is rejection n sense of losing in it. when one is breaking up, he/she has a reason for it (finding someone better or atleast a plan to carry on their life). The one who is left behind has to bear the pain

I've never been dumped and i've never been the dumpee. I am 17 and my current bf (who's 19)is the only bf I've had (we been together for over a year now). It would be so hard to break up with him, yet it would hurt so much more if he broke up with me. Now, I'm not saying either will happen cause we are in love and we want to be with eachother. But, I would say if he broke up with me, i would hurt more.
