When I stand on my left foot after waking up or resting for a while I have a strong pain in my left foot. It's located just below the ball of my foot, where it goes in - not as low as my arch, though. The pain starts there and shoots to the top and outer side as I walk on it. This has been going on for a while - maybe 6 months. (I know I should see a doctor, but it seems like all they ever want to do is put you on pain medication instead of figuring out the root problem.)

I'd love to know what is causing this, if there's anyone who can give me any ideas! Thanks!

sounds like you need to check out this great website, myfootshop.com, that offers educational descriptions of foot/ankle conditions and OTC products that may help you avoid the doctor. If you continue to have discomfort and the suggestions on the site do not help i would try going to a podiatrist. Good luck!

Plantars faciitis. It's a painful sharp pain. The tendons in the feet are stretched out (think of pulling a rubber band) I am a long distance walker and have been so for many years. I had to stop walking hills and hiking. I finally had surgery after years of shots for pain , icing, exercising my foot. I feel better, but, not the same. I won't be able to walk long distances, hills or climb and I must use cushioned inserts and special shoes. It's the way it is. You accept it and deal with it. :)

Plantar faciitis - Some remedies include rolling your foot across a rolling pin, massage, etc.

First off, seriously consider changing your shoes. I've had it for several years and switching to Birkenstocks has relieved much of my morning pain. Those may not be your style but your shoes are contributing to the problem.

go to www.webmd.com search for plantar and it will bring up lots of articles on this condition.

It is most likely arthritis. I have this in both feet. I discovered what it was when I broke my foot and had x-rays taken. Get a good pair of shoes with inserts. Go to a shoe store (not Payless) that will help you get a pair of shoes that will help your feet.
