The Core Pocket Media Player is for video not audio files. Therefore, you can't encode an mp3 file nor can you play an mp3 files in TCPMP player.

Here are the supported video files on TCPMP:
- AVI (*.avi)
- Matroska (*.mkv, *.mka)
- MP4 (*.mp4, *.m4a)
- Ogg Media (*.ogg, *.ogm)
- ASF (*.asf)

For audio files, such as mp3, I would recommend the Pocket Tunes Deluxe MP3/WMA Player you can try and buy on PalmGear at http://www.palmgear.com
