About 8 or 9 years old. I don't think anyone told me - I just figured it out. But I never told my parents that I knew. I wanted to keep the Santa Claus thing going for as long as possible because I liked the excitement of being surprised in the morning.

I was 6. My older brother told me Santa wasn't real, just a phony guy someone had made up. I felt like he had punched me in the stomach, and that I had been lied to by adults. He told me that just to be mean, as he later admitted as an adult. I knew the Christmas story was about Jesus, but I was very sad because I liked the idea of a jolly man bringing children presents. I didn't know at the time there really WAS a Saint Nicholas who devoted his life to helping children. But I didn't ruin it for my younger brother. I pretended with him until he figured out on his own that Santa didn't really come down the chimney. And when I grew up and had a daughter of my own, I taught her that Santa Claus is the spirit of giving that St. Nicholas represented, but Jesus was the real reason for the season.

My mom got really into the whole idea of santa, she even took powder and my dads work boots and made "santa foot prints"
one problem she used the same wraping and santa had the same handwriting as my mom, and when I looked in the trunk of her car, all the presents were in there. Hummm?

I was 11 and I had been hearing rumors in school that santa wasn't real. So I was in the car with my mom and tried to trick her into telling me so I was like "Mom, I know Santa isn't real but shouldn't we tell Jason that he...blah blah blah" (Jason is my brother). Then my mom was like "Yeah, you're right..." Then I was in shock. Christmas hasn't been the same since.

Wait, hes not reall????????????????????????????????????
hahahah jk.
I found out when i was 10... i didnt find out in a harsh way
Little things really... the way my parents and older sister would talk about it, and my brain was finally devolping lol so i began to question it... no big deal. But after finding out hes fake it seems so lame to even create this Santa. Its just a lie and a lot of kids are crushed when they find out.
