The "Check Engine" light will com on if the on board computer fails to receive a proper signal from any of the many many pick up points that are considered important.

Example: A code reader is available for less than $50 dollars from "Harbor Freight Tools". Also they are available from various vendors on line. The code reader will come with a booklet that contains the codes and the problem areas when that code appears. The latest one problem that I had was the EGR valve malfunction. It has a vacuum amplifier that failed to open the EGR valve. Replacement of the Vacuum amplifier solved the problem.

on some autos that are older. turning the ignition on and off and on again will make the check engine light blink. Ten blinks means aok.

The number of blinks indicated the code.

By the way: The EGR valve: Exhaust Gas Reculator: It take a small amount of burned exhaust and feeds it back to the intake of the engine. That lowers the peak flame temperatures and reduces Co2 emissions.

Hope this is helpful. Also: If you disconnect your battery. You will have to drive the car for a few days to restore all the codes filed in the on board computer.

I dont know if it will work for your grand voyager but if you disconect the battery and leave the vehicle desconected over night this should clear the codes that it read when your other battery was not charging and your alternator was overworking. If what I told you does not work you can either get a code reader or go to a garage where they can plugin the code reader and reset your computer(should shut the light off).
