Well technically you should pay for it because you didn't take the precautions ahead of time, you can't prove anything, you can't prove they knew about the leak but they can testify that i was your fault because you were on the tractor at them time and if they don't know the cause of the leak then they can blame it on you. Just pay the $250 and move on. I've paid for much more damage that wasn't even mine its not the end of the world but learn how to spell too because that will look better in court if you have to go yep

Why don't you offer to pay half. Even though it was leaking I don't think it would had just broke without you hitting those bumps. I think your friend thinks you were driving reckless, that's why he thinks you should pay the whole amount for repairs.Your point is valid also that's why you should only pay half. If you don't offer any payment you probably will lose your friend he will surely say you destroyed the tractor and refuse to pay. Pay something or get ready to lose your friend.

Offer to HELP fix it but like you said... it was leaking before. What should they have expected. The same thing would have happend to them. Don't pay for it all. If you don't have any money...tell them. Split the differance. Personally, if they really were friends they wouldn't be telling you to do anything. I wouldn't do squat, but be able to back up what you say.

Yes. You should. You were on the tractor at the time. You messed up the forklifts. Be a man. Take responsibilty and stop trying to pin it on other people. Ask if you can work it off. And spell "enough" right..

Since your friend didn't previously specify what you were responsible for, and he didn't tell you about the problems, it shouldn't be your fault, and you definitely shouldn't pay for it. Maybe he even deliberately made you look like you were responsible for the incident, so that you would pay for HIS tractor repairs.

Even though it wasn't your fault, it sounds like the question is how much do you value your friendship? If it's worth more than $250 then I'd just pay it, you wont even miss it later on.

i dont think you should be held responsible for the tractor.. maybe you should sit down with your friend and talk about it... since it was his tractor and you were driving it... maybe to keep your friendship i would suggest to go in half to get it fixed... not sayingf it was your fault at all.. but because it is a friend

I think if they knew it was having problems and you didn't do anything to it that would ordinarily break it, you should not be responsible for the damage. However, in the interest of politeness, you should have offered to begin with. (Which would have given your friend the opportunity to say, "No, that's okay, it wasn't your fault.")
