CreAtive Zen or iAudio X5
Both a million times better than iPod. Has an opporating system that lets you customize your backgrounds and folder. Not to mention is plays any time of video, where as the iPod has to be converted to a complicated, rarely used file type.

Check out Creative and Sony's players. Really, they have the best lineups. Similar to Apple's, in the sense that there's something for everybody, and nothing confusing.
Actually, I might just be getting myself an iPod as my next MP3 player... I would get a 30GB iPod Video and put RockBox on it the instant I get home. Then I'd be able to play my Ogg Vorbis tunes on it. :)

I agree. I use a Palm TX instead... It's not a true MP3 player, but it's got a nice screen and is flash-based (No hard disk to break, but it costs more).
I have a tip, too! to get iTunes music onto any MP3 player, burn a CD (Or use a CDRW for multiple burns) of your songs, then import them into your MP3 player's media player on your computer (Like Windows Media Player). Apple doesn't want you to know this, but hey! forcing me to put it on an iPod only makes me want to do this!

I agree. iPods are impractical.
It plays audio files just like any other mp3 capable device and doesn't offer anything unique besides its minimalist looks, crappy headphones, and limited video capability.
Generally, people who buy iPods tend to buy into the "Because they're Apple" hype, and fail to research on what mp3 device is really best for them.
