you're mind is awake but you can't move your body. You try to move or get up but you can't so you yell out for someone to try to have them wake you up but all you can do is mumble?

It's happened to me a couple times. My mom told me it's when your body is physically exhausted but mentally you're awake. The first time it happened to me, I could see myself lying in bed struggling to get up (that part I'm thinking was a dream).

I'm fully concious of what's going on around me. I know this because the TV was on a couple times and I heard the the TV and understood what was going on. I just couldn't do anything about it for a couple minutes and after a little bit of struggle, I did manage to get up and remembered everything in detail.

"...your body remains almost completely still (except for small twitches), because it is temporarily paralyzed during REM sleep to prevent you from actiong out your dreams.
The 'sleep paralysis' of REM sleep doesn't always turn off immediately upon awakening; this is why you may have experienced waking up and not being able to move for a minute. Sleep paralysis can seem a terrifying experience, but actually it is quite harmless, and indeed, can even be useful for inducing lucid dreams."

Does that sound like it?

I have actually had this happen to me before - it is really, really, really scary. It is a sleep paralysis.

If you are looking down on yourself lying there - you could actually be having an out of body experience. Next time it happens - see if you can look around you besides just down at your body. If you can - you need to tell yourself to go back to your body. See if that helps. Good luck!

usually this happens when i have a horrible nightmare. But the nightmare comes when I am exhausted. I try to scream and run and only get out a murmer. But enough to wake me.

you're prolly dreaming.... cause during REM sleep (that's when you're having your dreams) your body is paralyzed.
