My friend is 8 months pregnant and she is bleeding. Not a whole lot but when she wipes it is fresh blood? Does anyone know why this could happen? And does it sound really serious?

um yeah you need to take her to the emergency room bleeding isn't normal.

Have her call her doctor and they will be able to tell her whether she needs to come in or not. So many people on this board freak out a little too much, but I still think the doctor will know best in these situations. Light or spotty bleeding in the third trimester is generally not a cause for concern. It is often the result of trauma to the increasingly sensitive cerix during an internal exam, sex, or simply of unknown causes. Ocassional bleeding is a sign that medical attention is needed. Only your practitioner can determine the cause same day even if it is only spotty. An ultrasound can usually determine whether a problem exists. Bleeding can even be a sign of premature labor with a bloody mucousy discharge is accompanied by contractions. The best thing is for her to call her doctor basically. Most likely it isn't a big deal, but it's still best to call her doctor.

Spotting while pregnant is not unusual but it should not be ongoing. It could be caused by your friend being on her feet too much or maybe overdoing it. If it is a significant amount of blood or does not stop, DEFINITELY call the doctor. The blood she is seeing may be her "show" which is the mucus plug that is passed right before labor begins. Take care of your friend...

Well I will state the obvious first - which she probably already knows..... she needs to get a professional medical opinion. (As everyone else will probably point out also.)
Having said that ... it could be serious - her placenta could be abrupting which is a serious problem or it could just be that her cervix is irritated which is pretty minor.

She really needs to see a Dr. It could be that she lost her mucus plug. No one but a Dr can really say weather or not it's serious

is she sure of the due date cause it could be what is called the mucus plug if it has like snotty slime accompanied w/ it.if yes she will deliver in a week or 2.If no I would let the doc know just to be sure.

Baby i'm a guy and everything and i asked a few people(parents) and they said u should NEVER EVER bleed while pregnant. you should see a doctor. hope ur alrite... take care of urself... be safe. peace.

Get off the computer and get to the hospital!!!! It could be a possible miscarriage or pre-term labor. You should esp. be concerned if it is bright red.....go go go!!!!!
