I am an Aussie in Canada and am going to visit Machu Picchu in September. I am very flexible on dates and am wanting some tips from people who've been there.
Should i just get there and then organise tour etc.?
If not, can you recommend a good tour operator group?
Any tips on staying where and for how long? (eg Cusco 2 days etc.)
Cheers!!

I'm leaving next Monday on the 21st and will visit, no tours just catch the train from Cuzco. Than back to Cuzco and a 9 hour train trip to Lake Titicaca (sorry about the spelling), you can visit the islands and stay on one, apparently on these islands there is a list that the residents get on and whoever is next on the list will take in the tourist and you stay with them in their home which should be quite nice. Will be in country for 8 days. Will catch a plane to see the Amazon (cant go that far and not see that). Give me your email add and I'm told there are a number of Internet cafe type places to email from and I'll let you know what I find. Just got a number of immunizations and have to take my first malaria pill Monday, one on the 21st and for four weeks after I return, It's a hassle but I think will be well worth it. Looking forward to a great adventure. We plan on being with the locals and have 2 prescriptions for anything like dysentery or something like that, BESURE you have something for that and talk to your doctor about what to eat and drink or you may be out of luck and not have a good time.

Next trip may be to Tasmania, have any advice about that?

What I did , we took the train from Cusco to Machu Piccu and stayed at the hotel on site. When I when 20 years the hotel had only about 10 rooms, so when all the crowds leave after 2 hours , you have basically, Muchu Picchu for yourself.
Cusco is also very interesting, and deserves at least 2 days.
