I teach high school social studies and have internet access, an LCD projector, and an electronic whiteboard in my classroom.

Ask them where they would go in the world if they could go anywhere they wanted. Make them tell you why they would go there - is it to see a certain site? To see the jungle? To see the Taj Mahal? To see the great wall of China?

Then ask them to find the place using Google Earth.

Ask them what they are reading in English - where does the story take place? You could do the same with all their other courses, especially if you allow historical content. Where exactly did the battle of Waterloo take place? Where was DaVinci born?

well google earth is excellent , i wished we had that in school . i think locating every country is a start on a lesson , because until i used google earth i didn't even know where all the countries were located , but i graduated in 87 maybe that makes a difference

Wow that would be so cool if you did use Google Earth in your class. Maybe you could give them coordinates and have them try to find an object or building.

hmm like if your teaching world history u can like point out where in the world the event is taking place. the city and stuff. Like world war 2 u can show a pic of europe/asia and stuff
