You receive the results of the way you live your life. If you sow good seeds in your field(love, compassion, kindness, honesty), you reap a healthy crop, if you sow bad seed (discord,jealousy, envy, strife), you will produce a life of misery, for you and others.

Reap as in harvest, sow as in sowseed, that which you plant. You are responsible for your own return, like the reward from hard work or shrewd investment.

"reaping" means to harvest...
"sowing" is a term for "planting"...
if you sow CRITICISM you will reap RESENTMENT...
