Because mine does, and has for a while!! I'm a 26 year old female - so it's not old age; and I'm not out of shape, either! What can my doctor do about this? I will not go to a chiropractor because I have been to a couple before and I'm just not a believer. Advice! Please! I'm sick of being in PAIN!

When the chiropractor did x-rays, he showed me that my neck is curved the opposite direction of what it should be and is more then likely caused by whiplash (i don't recall when i could have ever gotten whiplash) but he said if I came once or twice a week (at 40 bucks a pop) then we can make it normal. I can't afford that!! What can my normal Dr. do?

You have a bad pillow! Your neck is not supported at night! Get an extra firm pillow (foam not feather) and sleep on your sides, but be sure you head is level not high or low. Good night!

No, it's not normal to be in that sort of pain for an extended period of time. Something is definitely wrong. Have you had x-rays done yet to make sure all your discs are in the right place? You could also try going to a physiotherapist to get your neck feeling good again.

But physio isn't a long-term solution -- you need to address the root cause.

If it's a muscle injury, it could be because of the pillow you're using. I had a similar problem and eventually changed to one of those contoured, foam pillows -- I have never been able to go back to normal pillows. Seriously, try the foam pillows -- they're just the right thickness and your back and neck will thank you.

Anyway, good luck - I hope your neck starts to feel better soon!

Your "normal" doctor can give you meds to reduce the symptoms..Will not treat the cause of the problem. That one fact is the main reasons chiropractors have the success they do.

I wonder what the cost will be, going to your doc and then the prescirbed meds on top of it???? The cost in this state is anywhere from$60.00/.$125.00 per visit

I know the feeling about neck pain. I tried a rice bag. It is exactly that. RICE in a Bag. I had sewn 2 cotton kitchen towels together and put white rice(not in Plastic) into them then sewd the end shut. I put the bag into microwave for about 2 minutes(heat depends on you). It does help.
Something else that might work is roll a small bath towel into a tight roll, place it under your neck when you are in your bed, make sure you are comfortable. Put a pillow under your knees.

It could be your spine is crooked or even if you are a very large breasted woman your neck can hurt. Yes, see a doctor for an xray to get rid of the pain. Find out what's wrong

Nope, it's not normal.
Posture is the main cause.
- examine how you sit during the day, you should be sitting upright and with your head up.. don't lean forward looking at the computer
- be aware of how you sit when driving, watching tv etc., and walking..
- do some mild neck turns or exercises once a day to loosen up the neck.

i would get a professional massage....but you may need to see a chiropractor for real... there could be something seriously out of place. Don't go to the same chiropractor that you did before, if you wern't happy there before, you probably won't be again.

Although the chiropractor is onto something, I would want to be refereredto a multidisciplinary chronic pain clinic to see what can be done by everyone!

I ended up demanding an MRI because of the same problem.
They found that I had a buldge in one disc and degeneration in another.
If you are lucky it is a muscle spasm.
See your MD.
Good Luck!!!
