the AODE is an electronic overdrive. if there is a button to turn the OD on and off, it is the AODE

Are you putting this in a car? Rebuilding? What? Just one you are trying to use?? If so, measure the housing. There are some differences in length. You may end up cutting a drive shaft to length. But you may get lucky. The differences are within 3 inches generally. Depends on the year. If it has a bunch of wires coming out, it will be the AODE. I'd just use a straight AOD. Tough transmission, few problems when taken care of. Good luck.

Both transmissions will use the same rebuild kit. The only difference between the AOD and the AODE is the exterior shift controls. The internals to the transmissions are the same. One is automatic with overdrive and the other is automatic with overdrive with electronic shift controls.
