I know some of you will just say that "indie" is short for "independent music", as opposed to mainstream music, which isn't at all what I'm asking about, so don't even think about telling me that.

Indie rock is a little bit soft and doesn't really sound the same. Trust me if its indie you will know.

indie music are bands that are usually just getting started out and can't get a major label deal....or they are just making music for fun and not the money.

most indie artists don't make much, which is a disappointment...but it seems that indie music tends to be better then mainstream becasue the artists maybe are still true to the music and not to the money

Indie is a little softer I guess. Like The Decemberists and Murder by Death. Two of my favorite Indie bands. Personally, I like it a lot. Nobody else that I know does because they say it's just weird. Iron and Wine...I like that band too.

Well, indie music is short for "independent" label. Meaning they haven't signed with a major label.
