I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS IN MY LIFE. MY MOTHER REFUSED TO BELIEVE THAT THE HOLOCAUST EVER HAPPENED. I SAT AND TALKED TO HER FOR HOURS ABOUT IT. WE ARE OF GERMAN DECENT, AND ALTHOUGH WE WERE HERE IN AMERICA AT THAT HISTORICALLY DEVASTATING TIME, HER PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS TAUGHT HER THAT IT WAS ALL A LIE. I DON'T TRULY KNOW WHY, BUT I CAN ASSUME THAT MY GRANDPARENTS DIDN'T WANT THEIR CHILDREN TO THINK BADLY OF THE GERMANS IN GERMANY. MY MOTHER TRULY BELIEVED FOR HER ENTIRE LIFE THAT IT WAS A BIG LIE. I TRIED MY BEST TO CHANGE HER THINKING, AS I AM ASHAMED THAT SUCH HORRIFIC THINGS WERE DONE TO THE JEWS AND POLISH, AND OTHERS. AS FOR MY GRANDPARENTS, I AM SORRY THAT THEY WERE SO BLIND TO THE SAVAGE SUFFERING THAT WENT ON. I WAS BORN IN 1946, AND I KNOW THAT THE HOLOCAUST WAS A SIN AGAINST MANKIND THAT CAN NEVER BE FORGIVEN. I AM STILL PROUD OF MY GERMAN HERITAGE, I AM AN AMERICAN.

I always forget th ename, but there was this book written years back which described the Holocaust as the biggest hoax ever. This author was actually defending the position that a Holocaust on such a level was impossible to achieve. I, however, have been to the Holocause museum in Washington, D.C. and now how real it was and still is and that it indeed took place. I'm not too sure why some people deny it to this day, but I can only imagine what it must feel like knowing that one of your ancestors, or even the culture/race you identify with was responsible for the murdering of millions? I'd hate to feel that way.

Sadly enough, there have been other genocides which are still not recognized and which many people, young and old alike, have not heard of. Case in point: the Armenian genocide. Turkey-to this day- denies that it participated and sponsored the murdering and genocide of many Armenians.

Good question I guess they don't want to believe it all due to tunnel vision. Tunnel Vision is something all of us has from time to time when presented the facts on a certains subject they don't want to believe it's true because then they have to admit they are wrong. There will always be people like that who will deny that the Holocaust has happen and the that voice of denial will grow stronger as more and more Holocaust survivors die off. That's why it's important to have museum deciated to them and their families that they saw die all around them in hopes people will learn from their mistakes and never do this again to another fellow human being. That's way their stories must be told so someone will learn from them and treat other human being with kindness. It's important to keep the voices of these survivors going even if they are long gone so that this will never happen again.

Because people as a rule have a hard time accepting data and even facts that make them uncomfortable or contradict what they believe. The longer ago something happened, the easier it is to say "that's not what I was taught".

How recent was it that Japanese High School History books finally admitted that they invaded Pearl Harbor without creating a whole list of things that America did to supposedly "provoke" the Japanese response? And in some private schools over there (I'm told) they still maintain the stance that Pearl Harbor was a response to "American expansionism" and not because they thought they could catch us with our pants down.

Objective history is a difficult, if not impossible, thing to obtain... and some will always refuse to believe it.

People who don't know history should be pitied and educated. Those who refuse to be educated should be pitied and put aside. And those that refuse to learn from history should be fought -- they will be the ones who create the invasions and atrocities of tomorrow.

We used to live beside a couple who were escapees from Auschwitz. They had many stories to tell. Very sweet and kind people.
They had numbers tattooed on their wrists, and many scars from the abuse they took.
The woman only survived by remaining under a pile of dead bodies for two days, including the bodies of her mother and sister. All of the women were gathered together and shot, but somehow she survived with a 'minor' wound. When it was dark one night, she escaped through a fence.
I don't know how someone could deny the reality of such an experience, but people do.
I think many of the people who deny this truth are racists, or supremists, because of fears that run their own lives that may, or may not be based on a personal experience, or family upbringing.

The Holocaust is not fake it was real! The Holocaust is also documented by no others, but the Nazis themselves. They were bragging of what they were doing. they didn't hide it. and that how we have so much real time documentary film about it.
The people who say that are not educated. Instead of learning about it from historians they listen to the rhetoric and propaganda of Fundamentalist Islam and other Holocaust deniers. If they believe this source better then actual learned and researched historians that says a lot about them doesn't it. Its sad!

Most of them are anti-semites, people who hate the Jews, and prefer to believe that there is a huge conspiracy to pretend it happened so that the Jews can claim compensation. They pick one tiny area of the history and try and claim it didn't happen so that they can then claim that none of it happened. They are all, without exception, lunatics.

Many of these people are neo-nazis and hope that by devaluing the Holocaust, they can persuade people to become Nazis again.

If you can borrow it from your library, I can recommend Deborah Lipstadt's book "Denying the Holocaust." which is an examination of some of these people. One of them, a low-life called David Irving sued her for libel in England (it's much easier to sue for libel in England than the US) and got well and truly stomped for his pains. You can read the judgement in the trial on line it's long but interesting. He's in jail in Austria now for entering the country illegally to preach his nazi crapola.

I have began to notice that too and it started
happening at just about the time people began
blaming the jews for all the wars & killings in
the middle east between them and the -
near by nations.
It seems like hate towards the jewish people
has begun yet again in the world, and it's so
hard to amagine because Israel is so tiny of
a nation that people can actually believe the
lies told about them. Some people truly don't
want Israel to exist, and many of them simply
because it's where Jesus is said to have come
from, and they don't want any attention on
Jesus Christ simply because they believe it
takes away from their religions and views.
As crazy as it sounds, the war between
Abrahams sons,Ishmeal and Isaac still goes
on to this very day!!!

Outremer 7,
When such horrors are inflicted by human beings
to other human beings, the simple thing to do is
to deny it. I call it the 'Ostrich Syndrome' - just bury
your head in the sand and it eventually goes away....
It is very comfortable to deny horrors and wrongdoings.
But what makes one wonder, is why do we keep repeating
the same horrors? Are they the same people who denied
the first horror?
Sad, isn't it?

Same can be said of the lunar landing, death of Elvis and the JFK shooting. To some all proof is deniable. I've toured Dachau and known people with the serial number tattoos but it still seems a bit unimaginable.
