I didn't learn to ride a bike until I was 12, but that was long ago. And I didn't try to learn in the middle of NYC. I don't suppose there are any soft meadows there to learn in.

Adjust the bike so that you can stand up on the ground while still more of less on the bike. Wear a helmet. Good luck.

Once you have a bike, I'd find a park or an area away from traffic and enlist a friend/family member/human to help steady you while you get the hang of balancing. Have fun!

get a bike but dont get hit in NYC cause theres alot of cars trust me cause i am going this week
